Indoor, Zermatt, 2026
At Hotel Silvana in Zermatt we fitted the relaxation room of the Mountain Spa with an LED screen. It is 6 m wide and 3 m high, and halfway up it bends through 90° from the wall into the ceiling.
Guests lie on the loungers and watch landscapes around Zermatt, with sound and with scent. The hotel switches the room on in the Loxone app, and from then on everything runs by itself.

Hotel Silvana is a family business in its third generation. It lies in Furi, at 1900 m above Zermatt. The Mountain Spa includes a relaxation room with loungers.
The idea: anyone lying there should be able to enjoy a film about the mountains around Zermatt. It shows the Matterhorn, glaciers, larch forest, old Valais barns and a starry sky above the Matterhorn.
The loungers are about 3 m from the screen. With a 1.5 mm pixel pitch, individual pixels are no longer visible from about 1.5 m.
So anyone lying down sees a continuous image. For this distance the screen does not need to be any finer.

The screen is made of Flex modules. They are flexible and attach magnetically to the substructure, which we built ourselves. This lets the image follow the curve from the wall into the ceiling.
The surface of the modules is sealed with GOB.

A sound system plays the film’s soundtrack. On top of that there is a scent system: a compressor with three scents releases a scent into the room depending on the scene.
The screen is driven by a Novastar controller together with a Mac mini. In its software we define which scent comes with which scene.
The hotel controls the room via Loxone. One click in the Loxone app switches the screen on, and from then on everything runs automatically.
The scent only starts when the motion detector registers someone in the room. When nobody is there, only the film runs.
The biggest challenge was logistics. Zermatt is car-free, and the hotel lies above the village in Furi, reached by gondola.
Screen, substructure and technology all still had to get there. Today the room is running, and everyone is happy.
